Gardener and Housekeeper Couples in London

In the parts of London where houses still have gardens — St John’s Wood, Hampstead, Highgate, Holland Park, Richmond, Barnes, Wimbledon and Chelsea — one person is rarely enough. The lawn, hedges and terrace need a gardener; the house needs a housekeeper. UKDOM sends both, on the same visit, from £55 an hour for the pair.

Gardener from a domestic cleaning couple pulling on work gloves before mowing a London garden

One visit, two pairs of hands

He takes the garden — mowing, hedges, beds, leaves, the terrace pots. She takes the house — kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, bed changes. Same arrival, same key handover, one person to message afterwards. For a house in St John’s Wood or Richmond that is half a day rather than two separate appointments in two separate weeks.

Where the gardens are

St John’s Wood (NW8) and Hampstead (NW3) — the largest private gardens inside Zone 2, usually walled, often with a lawn and mature hedging. Holland Park (W11) and Notting Hill — communal garden squares plus small private rears. Richmond, Barnes and Wimbledon — proper suburban gardens, the kind that need a mower rather than shears. Chelsea and Belgravia — courtyard gardens, roof terraces and window boxes that need watering more often than cutting.

And the ones people forget: garden flats — the ground floor of a Chelsea, Fulham, Kensington or Notting Hill conversion, with a private garden behind and no side access to it. Everything goes through the flat, which is exactly why the housekeeper comes with the gardener rather than a week later. A garden flat is usually a two-hour garden and a two-hour clean, so one visit of four hours covers both.

What each of them does

The gardener: mowing and edging, hedge trimming, weeding and bed maintenance, pruning, leaf clearance, planting and repotting, watering the terrace, taking green waste away. Tools and mower are ours.

The housekeeper: kitchen, bathrooms and living rooms, floors and surfaces, laundry and ironing, bed changes, and letting a trade in if you are out. Products and equipment are ours.

Why a couple works better than two bookings

One arrival time instead of two. One key handover instead of two. One person to message when something needs changing. And the practical bit people forget — the gardener carries soil and leaves through the house, so having the housekeeper there afterwards rather than the day before is simply the right order.
